Whitney Cummings has rebooted the ROAST. From the Friars club era, the Dean Martin era, to the Comedy Central era the ROAST has been rebooted more times than SPIDERMAN. Whitney Cummings has done it again, this time for ONLY FANS.
She’s out of her mind, Whitney, but she’s one hell of a producer. Her version of the roast is not your father’s, your uncle’s, your grandad’s or ever your older sister’s roast. This is your retarded next door neighbor’s roast, and it’s fucking nuts.
It’s sick, and demented, twisted, and it’s funny as hell.
TREVOR WALLACE?
Trevor Wallace who’s a kid from Youtube starts it off. He should not be this good. He’s a kid from YOUTUBE!!! He’s really great. He opens it perfectly. Every joke he throws out lands. He belongs in this group. He scores a ten. He’s followed by Jim Norton, who is as creepy as it comes, and he goes off on Whitney and everyone else and has some of the greatest roast lines I’ve ever heard. He’s so dark, so on Whitney’s teat.
He so goes after Bert who is toasted at his own roast. At the screening he admitted he didn’t remember any of it. He’s such a great sport this guy. He laughed his ass off the entire time.
This thing is on Only Fans and it needs to be. It is so out there. I’ve never seen a roast this no holds barred. Whitney has picked comics that don’t know how to not mis-behave at an event like this. It’s so over the top unrestrained, savage, bestial, lewd, ribald, and yet still so well written on a joke by joke level by people that know exactly how to do this, that it’s a wonder to watch.
You just thank God she didn’t do this on some streamer that cut anything out. She was so smart to do this where she did it.
ONLY FANS?
Whitney has broken new ground here. This is the start of something big for comedy. I can feel it. It’s exciting. She cut this perfectly. You can feel she almost had a breakdown doing it. On the special, and on the night of her premiere you can see her losing it. It’s like Dean Martin in the old days showing up drunk, but wow. She really nailed it. She booked it so well. Booked it perfectly. Let it happen. It looks so out of control, but you know it isn’t. You know she’s in control all the time. It’s a weird controlled chaos. Just fun.
You have to watch it.
TONY HINCHCLIFFE
Tony Hinchcliffe was genius. His attack on Bert and on everyone was so well orchestrated. The guy is such a star. He’s really amazing. His jokes are so good. He’s so evil. Comedy’s dark Prince. There is no one in this little fucker’s league. Not at this kind of thing. He will be a superstar so soon. Watch. The special is worth going onto Only Fans just to see his turn. Maybe his and Rachel Feinstein’s.
RACHEL FEINSTEIN
She was perfect casting because, as she said, she wasn’t really part of the whole Kreisher/ Cummings/ Rogan/ Hinchcliffe/ Comedy Store/ LA bubble and she was able to do a comedy run on it and about it, and about Bert, that had so much comic prowess and mastery. She showed a level of talent that made Whitney look smart for having whisked her across the country and onto the show when she could have had a hundred funny ass LA women in her place. Rachel Feinstein is damn good in this. She made Whitney shine.
BIG JAY OAKERSON
Was a great get as well. He’s a perfect fit for this new dimension of roasting. He’s so versed at these gags that sometimes it seems like he’s not roasting, but he is. He always has a punchline coming. It’s a treat to watch his version of this thing which is really hard to be good at. He’s a master.
Jim Norton was great, as I said, Donnell Rawlings was as good, as he always is. Even funnier sitting down interrupting people before he got up then he was when he was at the podium, which was a giant beer keg.
Donnell, I will say, was weighed down with a wedding bit that didn’t really pan out, not by his fault at all, and a general too loose energy that didn’t hold up next to Tony, Rachel, Trevor, Jay, Jim and the others. Whitney herself wasn’t as funny as I’ve seen her be either, but I think a lot of it was her wearing too many hats. She was funny, don’t get me wrong, she just seemed to be wanting to set all the others up to be funny and didn’t have herself being hysterical as job one. That’s all.
The other thing I missed was not having Bert end it up by railing into everyone else. Maybe Whitney wanted to do it differently than all the other versions of Roasts/Spidermans. I don’t know. It seems to be a missing element. (It also may have been shot and Bert was too out it? Who knows?) It doesn’t matter. There are so many laughs here. You have to see this. You really do. It’s the start of a new era. Whitney has done something special. She really needs to be applauded and supported.
Then sent somewhere to rest. Love you, Whitney!
